Everest Base Camp Trek Short Itinerary

Day 01 – Arrive at Tribhuvan International Airport Kathmandu. Move to your hotel.

Day 02 – Fly to Lukla (2840 m/ 9318 ft) and Trek to Phakding (2652 m/ 8699 ft) Walking Distance – 8 km, Duration: 3 hours

Day 03 – Phakding to Namche Bazaar (3440 m/ 11283 ft) Walking Distance – 10 to

12 km, Duration: 6 hours

Day 04 – Namche to Tengboche (3860 m/ 12660 ft) Walking Distance – 10 to 11 km, Duration: 5 hours

Day 05 – Tengboche to Dingboche (4410 m/ 14464 ft) Walking Distance – 11 to 12 km, Duration: 5 hours

Day 06 – Acclimatization Day- Hike to Nagarjun hill and return: Walking Distance

– 5 to 6 km, Duration: 4 to 5 hours

Day 09 – Gorakshep – Kala Patthar (5545 m/ 11283 ft) then trek back to Pheriche (4210 m/13810ft (ca. 4 km)) Walking Distance – 13 to 14 km, Duration – 7 hours

Day 10 – Pheriche to Namche (3440 m/ 11283 ft) Walking Distance – 14 to 15 km, Duration- 7 hours

Trip Overview

Embark on an adventure that is the epitome of high-altitude trips as you make your way to the Everest Base Camp. The journey offers a lavish spread of the Himalayas decorated with the rich Sherpa culture and rich biodiversity. The Everest Base Camp Trek (EBC Trek) is at the absolute pinnacle of all the Himalayan adventures in the world.

The Everest trekking explores the beautiful Khumbu Valley; the trails offer an enchanting display of the Himalayas. Mountains like Mt. Everest (8849m), Lhotse (8516m), and Cho Oyu (8201m) welcome you to the glorious land of the Sherpas. Moreover, the cultural richness of the Sherpa community adds more charm to the

EBC Trek. Also, the trek to Mount Everest Base Camp highlights many other attractions in the Everest region of Nepal. All in all, EBC Trek is a glorious celebration of natural and cultural riches on the Himalayas’ foothills.

Everest Base Camp Trek Elevation 

There is a vast difference in altitude during EBC Trek. The trip starts from the capital of Nepal, Kathmandu, at 1,300 meters above sea level. A short and scenic flight takes you to the gateway to Mount Everest at Lukla (2840m). Hereon, the trek gradually ascends to the Everest Base Camp (5364m). However, the highest altitude on the trek is at Kalapatthar’s viewpoint (5545m).

Everest Base Camp Trekking Route

The glorious adventure to the base camp Everest begins from Kathmandu with a flight to Lukla. The trail follows the beautiful Dudh Koshi River to Phakding. You embrace the warm welcome of Sherpa culture. Further, the trek heads to Monjo before reaching the entrance of the Sagarmatha National Park. Namche Bazzar, the trade hub of Khumbu Valley, is the next destination on the trek. Here, you spend an extra day acclimatizing and exploring the riches in and around Namche. Then, you ascend deep into Khumbu Valley alongside the Imja River. Passing Sherpa villages like Tengboche and Pheriche in the company of Mt. Ama Dablam (6856m), you begin to trek north. The altitude keeps on increasing as you follow the lead of Khumbu Glacier past Lobuche to Gorakshep. Finally, the trip climaxes with a short hike to Everest Base Camp (5364m) and another one from Kalapatthar’s viewpoint. After enjoying the glorious parade of mountains, the return trek begins. The journey back to Lukla descends past sharp stone trails and glaciers to join frequent Sherpa settlements. Further, you continue to retrace your steps to Lukla and take a flight back to Kathmandu.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 01: Arrival in the Heart of the Himalayas

Your journey begins as you touch down at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu. The air is filled with anticipation as you're warmly welcomed to Nepal, a land of ancient traditions and breathtaking landscapes. A short transfer takes you to your hotel, setting the stage for the adventure that lies ahead.

Day 02: Soaring Heights and the First Steps

The excitement peaks as you board a flight to Lukla, a tiny airstrip nestled in the mountains at 2840 meters. The thrill of flying amidst towering peaks is a prelude to the trek ahead. The trek commences, leading you to Phakding at 2652 meters. The trail, adorned with prayer flags and flanked by rushing rivers, covers 8 kilometers in a modest 3 hours, offering a gentle introduction to the Himalayan terrain.

Day 03: Ascending to Namche Bazaar

Embarking on a 10 to 12 kilometer journey, you trek from Phakding to Namche Bazaar at 3440 meters. The path weaves through lush forests and picturesque villages, gradually revealing the majesty of the Khumbu region. After 6 hours of trekking, Namche Bazaar welcomes you with its vibrant market and panoramic mountain views.

Day 04: Pilgrimage to Tengboche

The trail ascends further, covering 10 to 11 kilometers in 5 hours, leading you to Tengboche at 3860 meters. The Tengboche Monastery, surrounded by snow-capped peaks, provides a spiritual pause in your journey. The tranquility of the place enhances the sense of awe as you soak in the Himalayan ambiance.

Day 05: Journey to Dingboche

The trek continues to Dingboche at 4410 meters, covering 11 to 12 kilometers in 5 hours. The landscape transforms into a rugged, high-altitude terrain, and the air becomes crisper. Dingboche, nestled in the lap of the mountains, offers a glimpse into the challenges and rewards of high-altitude living.

Day 06: Acclimatization and the Summit of Nagarjun Hill

A crucial day for acclimatization unfolds as you embark on a 5 to 6-kilometer hike to Nagarjun Hill. The breathtaking vistas prepare both body and mind for the challenges ahead. This 4 to 5-hour hike is a rewarding endeavor, ensuring you're ready for the higher altitudes.

Day 07: The Ascent Continues to Lobuche

The trail leads to Lobuche at 4910 meters, covering 11 to 12 kilometers in 5 hours. The landscape becomes more rugged, with panoramic views of towering peaks. Lobuche, a high-altitude haven, is your resting place before the final push towards Everest Base Camp.

Day 08: Reaching the Pinnacle – Everest Base Camp

The highlight of the journey unfolds as you trek from Lobuche to Gorakshep at 5180 meters. From Gorakshep, a challenging 5.36-kilometer trek takes you to the fabled Everest Base Camp at 5364 meters. The sense of accomplishment amidst the world's highest peaks is unparalleled. After soaking in the atmosphere, you return to Gorakshep, covering a total distance of 14 to 15 kilometers in 8 hours.

Day 09: Sunrise Glory at Kala Patthar and Descent to Pheriche

A pre-dawn ascent to Kala Patthar at 5545 meters rewards you with a breathtaking sunrise over Everest. After capturing this awe-inspiring moment, you trek back to Pheriche at 4210 meters, covering 13 to 14 kilometers in 7 hours. The descent offers a different perspective of the Himalayan landscape.

Day 10: Homeward Bound to Namche

Descending further, you trek from Pheriche to Namche at 3440 meters, covering 14 to 15 kilometers in 7 hours. The familiar trails bring a sense of nostalgia, and the journey becomes a reflection on the challenges overcome and the heights conquered.

Day 11: Final Leg to Lukla

The trek culminates as you traverse from Namche to Lukla, covering 18 to 19 kilometers in 7 hours. The journey back retraces familiar steps, offering a chance to savor the memories created amidst the Himalayan grandeur.

Day 12: Return to Kathmandu – A Journey Fulfilled

A short but spectacular flight from Lukla brings you back to Kathmandu, where the bustling streets provide a vivid contrast to the serenity of the mountains. The sense of accomplishment and the memories of the trek linger as you settle back into the vibrant city.

Day 13: Farewell to the Himalayas

As your adventure concludes, a farewell ceremony encapsulates the camaraderie formed and the challenges conquered. Departure from Kathmandu marks the end of an extraordinary journey, leaving you with a treasure trove of memories and a deep appreciation for the majesty of the Himalayas.

Trekking gears required for Himalayan trek →

  • Gum boots will be required and mandatory for chadar trek.
  • ID Proof (along with photocopy) and 6 passport size photos.
  • Three layers of warm clothes: Carry two or three-layer jackets, fleece jackets and a padded jacket.
  • Backpack (40-50 L) & its rain cover.
  • Two  trek pants . Denim/jeans and shorts are not suitable for trekking.
  • Three t-shirts (collared/dri-fit): Full sleeved t-shirts that prevent sun burns on the neck and arms. Carry one or two dri fit T shirts.
  • Cap
  • Water proof hand gloves : Carry waterproof gloves, Thermals: Carry thermals (top and bottom).
  • Sunglasses : Sunglasses are mandatory. There will be a lot of snow on the trek and can cause snow blindness. Make sure your sunglasses are UV protected. 
  • Socks (3-4 pairs) and a pair of woollen socks: Apart from two sports socks, you can take a pair of woollen socks for the night.
  • Headlamp/LED torch with extra batteries.
  • Raincoat / Ponchos
  • Carry a few plastic bags in case your clothes get wet.
  • Lunch box and water bottle: Every trekker  should have their personal lunch box and two  water bottles  [ 1 insulated type & 1 plastic bottle ]

Trekking personal kit 

  • Sunscreen above SPF 45 would be recommended.
  • Sanitary pads & meftal spas  for women.
  • Lip guard & moseruiser.
  • Tooth brush, tooth paste, toilet paper & sanitiser.
  • General medicine for headache,cough,cold etc and antifungal cream.

Trekking munchies 

  • Glucose (100g), 2-3 ORS packet, energy bars (6-7), toffees  & dry fruits (100g).

 

Inclusion :

  • Day 1 & Day 12 : Accomodation in 3* hotel in Kathmadnu.
  • Day 2 - Day 11 : Accomodation in tea houses during the trek.
  • Airport pick up & drop.
  • All food (Breakfast,Lunch & Dinner ) during the Trek including 3 cups of tea/ coffee.  One item from the menu(veg or non veg.) is allowed during all meals of the day (breakfast, lunch & dinner). Order more at your own cost.
  • Pick up & drop to Kathmandu Airport/ Ramecchap.
  • Duffel bag, Sleeping Bag, and Down Jacket (return after completing the trip)
  • 1 English/Hindi  trip leader.
  • TO & fro flight ticket cost  from Kathmandu to Lukla.
  • Accommodation on Tea houses on twin sharing basis.
  • Backpack for mules ( if you want a mule or Personal Porter to carry your bag, we suggest you tell us in advance while making the booking). Weight of the rucksack should not be more than 10kg per trekker.

Tip to the support staff

Note: In case of any medical emergencies, our team will shift you to nearest medical center available. However, all the expenses will be borne by the participants.

If you opt out during the trek because of any issues or misbehave with fellow participants or staff, we will arrange all the logistics to move you safely to the nearest civilization. All the expenses will be borne by the participants.

  • INR 3500 per trekker extra will be charged if the flight takes off from Ramechhap instead of Kathmandu.
